The humid climate of Bamako is brutal on equip- ment and many electronic parts are unavailable so maintenance is a big problem. In the end, you find a way to make it work and these experiences have certainly reinforced something I have believed for many years. While a cool gear list can be a wonderful tool, it is just that, a tool, and the important thing is the amaz- ing music being made in front of you. Your job is to record it with whatever you have avail- able, things are happening fast and there is no time for excuses.
