Through this initiative we aim to give young students an insight into both our Audio and Film programmes. Most recently, eight Year 12 and 13 students (16 – 18 years of age) from Avondale College spent half a day in the studios as a part of this initiative. First off, the students were given a tour of the facilities, an explanation about the role of the audio engineer as well as an overview of the academic options SAE Auckland provides. The Avondale College students, who were in a band named ʻRevived Rhythmʼ, were then given the opportunity to get in the studio themselves to record one of their original compositions. The record- ing session was led by SAE lecturer Matthew Keller, who was assisted by two students currently enrolled in SAE’s Diploma in Audio Engineering programme; so not only has this initiative been benefiting secondary schools in the local community, it is also providing our own students with valuable work experience.
