Deine Zeit als SAE-Student liegt über 10 Jahre zurück. Was inspiriert dich, dein Wissen heute an junge Menschen weiterzugeben? Es sind jetzt knapp 11 Jahre, seit ich den Abschluss an der SAE gemacht habe und die Erfahrungen sind durchaus posi- tiv gewesen, auch über die Jahre hinweg, weil ich sehr viel Technikwissen aufbauen konnte, was mir sonst einfach gefehlt hätte. Ich glaube, in einem so kurzen Zeitraum so viel Wis- sen aufzubauen, schafft man fast nirgendwo anders, wenn ich das vergleiche mit anderen Hochschulen etc. Es ist für mich ein Motivationspunkt, weil ich weiß, dass die Studenten an der SAE sehr viel lernen und sehr viel können. Und da ist es immer wieder eine Freude mit ihnen zusammenzuarbeiten, weil dort auch wirklich sehr gute Ergeb- nisse erzielt werden. Gibt es besonders positive Erin- nerungen an die Zusammenarbeit mit den Studenten an der SAE? Was mir an der SAE gut gefällt ist, dass das Ausbildungsprofil ständig angepasst wird und keine veralteten Wissensstände vermittelt werden, sondern wirklich sehr gut auf die Praxis vorbereitet wird und man eigentlich mit den Absolventen direkt loslegen kann. Das ist sehr ungewöhnlich, weil meistens ja ein riesiger Theoriebalast bei den Studenten angesammelt wird, aber der starke Praxisbezug an der SAE ist für das tägliche Arbeiten wirklich sehr vorteilhaft. Du bist sehr aktiv auf Facebook und postest mehrmals täglich über Trends und Entwicklungen im Web. Wie stößt du auf diese Artikel und wie intensiv beschäftigst du dich mit den Inhalten? Dazu gibt es einen Hintergrund. Ich habe meine Diplomar- beit über Informationssysteme und Informationsverarbeitung geschrieben. Über die Jahre habe ich mir ein Set aufgebaut, über Google Reader und ähnliches, so dass ich sehr schnell Informationen erfassen kann. Auch hier gibt es einen Ablauf. Täglich skimme ich, also lese ich nicht, sondern überfliege an die 1.000 Artikel. Das schaffe ich meist morgens schon vor der Arbeit und es dauert zirka eine Stunde. Dazu markiere ich aber auch Artikel, die ich als interessant erachte, und diese lese ich dann auch tatsächlich. Das sind aber in der Regel sehr wenige, meistens so 10 bis 15. Die lese und poste ich. Mehr kann man nicht schaffen. Bei einem Großteil überfliegt man nur und liest nur die Headlines. Neben Google Reader habe ich auch einige Filter eingerichtet und ein Monitoring-Tool laufen für Twit- ter. Dazu nutze ich unter anderem auch Flipboard, was fürs iPad ja eher einen Magazincharakter hat, wo ich auch Listen zu bestimmten Trendthemen reinlese. Außerdem lese ich gerne Bücher über die Kindle App. ➤ Besides your job at Pixelpark you are giving lectures at SAE in the area of Web Development. Your personal time as an SAE-Student dates back more than ten years ago. What inspires you to hand over your knowledge to young people today? It is nearly 11 years now that I graduated from SAE and the experiences that I made are indeed positive, even looking back many years, because I was able to build up a lot of techni- cal knowledge that I would not have been able to acquire oth- erwise. If I compare this with other universities or education providers I think nearly nowhere else it is possible to build up so much knowledge in such a short time. Motivation for me is that I know that SAE students learn a lot and are able to do a lot, so it is always a pleasure for me to work with them because the results are of high quality. What I like about SAE is that it always updates the curriculum and does not teach outdated content, so it really prepares well for the practice on the job and you can start right away with the graduates. This is unusual because most of the time students have collected a vast amount of theoretical knowledge do not know how to apply it, but the practical approach of SAE is an advantage for the work life. You are very active on Facebook and several times daily you post about trends and developments on the Web. How are you collecting this information and how much in detail do you look at these articles before you post them? This is based a bit on my thesis about information systems and informa- tion processing. Over the years I have built a set of tools including Google Reader and similar services that allow me to inform myself very quickly. For this I have a routine. Every day I skim roughly 1000 arti- cles, mostly before work. It takes me about one hour. I also mark certain articles that I think are interesting and then actually read them. But these are usually not more than 10 to 15. These ones I read and post them. For the biggest amount of articles I can only read the headlines. Other than that it would not be possible. Besides Google Reader, I created filters and a monitoring tool for Twitter. I also use Flipboard, which has more of a magazine character for iPad. Here I create lists of trend topics as well. I also like reading books with the Kindle App. What inspires you most on the Web today? That is a difficult question. This is an interaction of hardware and web that we are actually testing and playing with. For ex- ample the so called Arduinos. Arduinos are small micro con- trollers that are programmable. They are very cheap and cost about 20 Euro. They enable to control hardware via the inter- net. We are working on a project where we knit little plush toys. These little animals have Arduino controllers with a sen- sor inside them. If you press the animal, they give a feedback. It is possible to measure this feedback. The idea is similar to a Tamagotchi. We can communicate the feeling we have here at the agency and even visualise it through the web. If 1000 people press the little animal, the curve for bad mood rises. But these things are just ideas, things we are working on in our free time. But I see a big market chance in this. If you look at the winners in Cannes concerning campaigns you will find a lot of projects that use Arduinos in the background. There is an example of a theme park with a big water slide. There is a big button, a Like-button. If you press it, a post on Facebook au- tomatically appears.
