068 SAE & SAE ALUMNI NEWS // INTERCONTINENTAL NEWS Sydney Students create MIDI masterpiece n Bill Day and Ryan Whare, who have graduated from SAE Sydney, crafted a pretty amazing self-functioning drum kit as part of their Crea- tive Project 2. Expanding on their initial first year creative project, the boys’ objective was to “further advance the function, design and the appeal” of their original MIDI robot. After a long year of extensive re- search and development, Bill and Ryan’s hard work culminated in this impressive final product. Im Bezug auf zu- künftige ‚Performances‘ des Roboters sagten Bill und Ryan: “Wir hoffen, den Roboter in unser Electronic Live-Set integrieren zu können. Das wäre für uns ein komplett neues kreatives Element zur Interaktion mit dem Publikum.” Perth SAE Sydney launches work placements for students n SAE Institute Sydney commenced its first ever work placement programme. Through this work placement, successful candidates have an opportunity to gain extra knowledge and experience and learn first-hand how the SAE studio facilities are managed and operated.The first recipients on the work placement initiative were audio students Tye Pennington and Ian Oh. The pair settled into their positions nicely and were doing a fantastic job providing support to first-year students in the studios. They were also kept busy working alongside the Studio Supervisors on the day-to-day man- agement and maintenance of the studios. In return for their hard work and contributions, Tye and Ian were awarded with extra time to complete a research project of their choice, a Certificate of Commendation and a reference at completion of their 17-week work placement programme. The masterclass practitioners focused on how they produce, mix and perform – revealing their tips, tricks and secrets. The Beat Summit crew comprised Dazastah - Producer and Downsyde MC extraordinaire (Dazastah has produced and worked with almost every singleAustralian hip-hop artist), Hykus - Electronic music maestro, Infamous Recordingz label Boss and head EMP lecturer at SAE Perth, and Zeke - Turntablist and pro- ducer with titles including: “Qbert Skratch University Valedictorian & Scratch Champion”, “Australasian DJAssociation Champion”, “Austral- ian Vice DMC Champion” and 2 x “State DMC Champion”.
