132 PRODUCTION & KNOW HOW // ANALYSIS OF MUSIC PRODUCTION The mixing desk and the hardware/software con- tained within constitutes an extra instrument whose own process converts the captured piece into a unique representation. The development of a tune is directly linked to the frequency processing of the elements that form part of it and its tonal richness. Music production provides the possibility to mould and manipulate the sound of the musician’s perfor- mance, changing its dynamics, putting it at the cen- tre of a determined acoustic space. Production using MIDI sequencing is based on a linear multi-track principle where each track creat- ed in the sequencer is assigned a channel and a determined tone, outlining the performance process of a modern day composer. The arrangement of MIDI events in the piano roll form part of the notational system of computer music and can also become an object of analysis.
