62 After the completion of her Recording Arts degree, Nikki was awarded a $6000 grant towards her post- graduate studies from the Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust. This Trust was set up in honour of Kate Edger, who in 1877 became the first wom- an in the British Empire to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree, which she completed at the University of Auckland (it’s interesting to note that one of the conditions of admittance into the degree was that on entering the classroom she had to ‘keep her eyes down’, presumably on the basis that she might otherwise distract the young male students from their academic studies!). The University of Auck- land established the Trust with the aim of en- couraging and supporting women seeking to undertake postgraduate studies in theAuckland and Northland areas. This grant saw Nikki become the first SAE Institute student to take on postgraduate study at the University of Auckland as a result of the newly formed articulation agreement with SAE Auckland. This was a great honour for her and for our institution. Music Behind Bars Nikki Chamberlain’s mu pilot programme was im 13th and 27th February Correctional Facility.
