This new course focuses on media and video techniques as well as on journalism and reporting. Many professionals from the Belgian media scene have already shown an interest in the course and paid SAE Brussels a visit for a special dedicated class. Amongst others, Joan Roels Conesa, who is chief editor of Twizz Radio sta- tion, gave our students a workshop about pro- cessing news for radio use. New Media Communication n L‘année dernière en novembre nous avons lancé la nouvelle formation New Media Communication. Cette formation permet de s‘orienter vers les différents métiers de la communication. Beaucoup de professionnels du paysage médiatique belge ont déjà ma- nifesté leur intérêt pour cette formation et ont accepté de rejoindre la SAE pour y donner quelques cours exclusifs. Parmi d‘autres, Joan Roels Conesa, rédacteur en chef de la radio Twizz, a partagé avec nos élèves son expéri- ence dans le traitement d‘information pour la radio. n Vorig jaar in november ging de nieuwe op- leiding New Media Communication van start. Een uitgebreid en gevarieerd programma die toegang verleent tot de verschillende beroepen binnen de communicatiesector. Al heel wat be- kenden uit het Belgisch medialandschap ver- toonden belangstelling voor deze opleiding en kwamen enkele exclusieve workshops geven. Onder andere Joan Roels Conesa, hoofdredacteur van Radio Twizz, deelde zijn ervaringen met onze studenten over het verwerken van infor- matie voor radiogebruik. Red Scarlet-X n SAE Brussels is constantly growing and in- vesting in new material for students in order to keep up with the professional sector. During the past few years we have held several workshops on the Red One camera, which was the first 4K camera produced by the Red Digital Cinema Camera Company. This year we will offer our students the opportunity to work with a Red Scarlet-X, the new 4k camera by Red that will change the way you look at motion. The Scarlet will be available to all our students for their work and projects under the supervi- sion of our supporting film staff. In addition, in September the Digital Cinema and Post-Pro- duction course will commence which is aimed at video professionals who want to learn about digital cinema workflows. This will bring our students one step closer to the real Digital Cinema experience. Red Scarlet-X n SAE Bruxelles investit toujours dans du ma- tériel pour rester proche de l‘industrie professi- onnelle. Plusieurs workshops ont été donnés sur la caméra Red One, la première caméra 4K produite par la RDCCC. Cette année nos étu- diants travailleront avec la Red Scarlet-X, la nouvelle caméra 4K de Red. A partir de sep- tembre aura lieu la formation Digital Cinema & Post-Production. Une formation destinée aux professionnels de la vidéo qui veulent en app- rendre davantage sur les workflows du cinéma digital. n SAE Brussel blijft investeren in apparatuur om bij te blijven met de professionele sector. David Miles Huber n We had the great opportunity to invite David Miles Huber for an ex- clusive workshop at SAE Brussels. David is known for his books on electronic music and recording techniques. His book “Modern recording techniques” has done more than well and has become standard in the music industry. He is also known for his audio CD series “Relaxation & meditation with music and nature”. He shared numerous personal ex- periences illustrating recent developments in the music industry. He stressed the fact that it is always important to be pro-active in this busi- ness and to participate in as many projects as possible during the course as this makes it much easier to make professional contacts for the future. David Miles Huber n Nous avons eu David Miles Huber parmi nous pour un atelier ex- clusif. David est connu pour ses livres sur la musique électronique et les techniques d‘enregistrement. Son livre „Modern Recording Tech- niques“ est devenu un standard dans l‘industrie de la musique. Il a il- lustré les développements dans l‘industrie de la musique tout en expli- quant l’importance d’être proactif et de participer aux projets proposés pendant la formation, car cela permet de rencontrer des contacts pro- fessionnels pour le futur. n David Miles Huber was bij ons voor een exclusieve workshop. Hij illustreerde de ontwik- kelingen in de muziekindustrie en benadrukte hoe belangrijk het is om pro-actief te zijn in deze sector en deel te nemen aan projecten in de loop van de opleiding, dit maakt het gemakkelijker contacten te leggen binnen de professionele wereld. Rotterdam Free Seminars and Bootcamps n Before the winter break, we arranged for a number of free seminars and bootcamps for audio and film enthusiasts to distract from the moody dutch weather: Getting Started With Final Cut Pro, Getting Started With After Ef- fects, Intermediate Editing Techniques and the Filmmaking Bootcamp with Matt James; for audio we welcomed international Audio- indus- try and engineer guru Mr. Tom Pearce and one of the most influential women in Pro audio en- gineering reporting Mrs Gisèle Clark telling us about the music industry; we also hosted a Get- ting Started with Logic seminar and a Set Up Your Own Recording Label seminar. Voor de audioliefhebbers hadden wij de internationale geluidstechnicus en “guru’ Tom Pearce samen met één van de meest in- vloedrijkste vrouwen in de industrie, Mrs Gisè- le Clark, uitgenodigd om het één en ander te vertellen over de huidige stand van zaken omtrent de geluidsindustrie. Ook hebben wij een “Getting Started in Logic” Seminar georganiseerd en een seminar waar je leert je eigen platenlabel op te zetten. US Record Producer Anthony Dent Workshop Turntablism seminar with D-Styles at SAE Athens n SAE Athens had the honour of hosting one the most legendary and skilled turntablists in the world, D-Styles. D-Styles, a pioneer in the world of scratch mu- sic, has been a member of Beat Junkies, In- visbl Skratch Piklz and Gunkhole releasing great albums such as “Phantazmagorea” (his most acclaimed work to date, a collection of songs composed entirely from scratching – the first of its kind). D-Styles also had a pivotal role in the foundation of the LA “new beat” scene along with Gaslamp Killer, Ras G and Gonjas- ufi. During his visit to SAE Athens, D-Styles pre- sented a unique seminar on scratching tech- niques including turntable creativity, phrasing, drumming and flows. The most fascinating part of the seminar was that the most daring par- ticipants got the chance to practice hands-on scratching techniques and jam along with the multi-talented DJ, D-Styles. The seminar was coordinated by Sparky T, the most skilled Greek turntablist and head instructor of SAE Athens’ DJ course. D-Styles: Turntablism Σεμινάριο στην SAE Athens n H SAE Athens είχε την τιμή να φιλοξενήσει έναν από τους θρυλικότερους turntablists στον κόσμο, τον D-Styles! Ο D-Styles, πρωτοπόρος στον κόσμο του scrat- ching, ήταν μέλος των Beat Junkies, Invisbl Skratch Piklz και Gunkhole, από όπου κυκλοφόρησε σημαντικά άλμπουμ όπως το „Phantazmagorea“ (η πιο γνωστή δουλειά του, μια συλλογή από τραγούδια βασισμένα εξ’ ολοκλήρου στο scratching – το πρώτο στο είδος του). O D-Styles έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο στη διαμόρφωση της „new beat“ σκηνής του L.A. μαζί με ονόματα όπως οι Gaslamp Killer, Ras G και Gonjasufi. Στα πλαίσια της επίσκεψής του στην SAE, ο D-Styles παρουσίασε ένα σεμινάριο με θέμα το scratching, το οποίο περιελάμβανε την παρουσίαση και ανάλυση διαφόρων τεχνικών scratching, καλύπτοντας turntable creativity και αυτοσχεδιασμούς, phrasing, drumming και flows. Το σεμινάριο κορυφώνθηκε στο τέλος, όταν οι πιο τολμηροί συμμετέχοντες “σκράτσαραν” ζωντανά μαζί με τον D-Styles. Συντονιστής του σεμιναρίου ήταν ο καταξιωμένος Έλληνας turntablist και βασικός εισηγητής του DJ Course της SAΕ, Sparky T. Sparky-T, head instructor of SAE’s DJ course, with the legendary D-Styles US Record Producers Anthony Dent and Needlz Workshops n In cooperation with New Skool Rules, SAE Insti- tute presented multi-platinum producers Anthony Dent (Credits: Kelly Price, The Notorious B.I.G., P Diddy, Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child) and Needlz (Credits: Bruno Mars, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Dave Chap- pelle, 50 Cent, The Game, Ludacris, G-Unit), who gave insight into becoming and staying successful as a producer/ songwriter, using the MPC 3000 to make hit records, and who listened and gave feed- back to attendees demos. US Muziek Producers Anthony Dent and Needlz Workshops n Het SAE heeft, in samenwerking met New Skool Rules, de meervoudig award winnende Anthony Dent (Credits: Kelly Price, The Notorious B.I.G., P Diddy, Jay-Z, Destiny‘s Child, ...) en Needlz (Cre- dits: Bruno Mars, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Dave Chappelle, 50 Cent, The Game, Ludacris, G-Unit, …) gepresenteerd. Deze gaven inzicht hoe zij in de industry zijn geraakt en aan de top hebben weten te blijven van de muziek industry. Gebruikmakend van de MPC3000 liet Anthony Dent zien hoe pro- ducties gemaakt kunnen worden en de aanwezige kregen de gelegenheiod feedback te krijgen over hun demo’s.
