Qantm Brisbane veranstaltete Anfang Dezember 2011 Me- tamorphosis, eine jährliche Ausstellung, auf der die bes- ten Abschlussarbeiten des Jahres gezeigt wurden. Zudem wur- de der Übergang der Studenten in die Welt der professionellen Digitalmedien- und Entertainment-Industrie Australiens gefei- ert. Das Event war erneut ein großer Erfolg. Mit dabei: Studen- ten, stolze Eltern (und Dozenten), der Staff und die Industrie. Qantm College Sydney brachte eine inspirierende Show auf die Bühne, in der es wichtigen Industriellen seine frischesten Talente vorstellte. Termin für die verheißungsvolle Industry Night, die sich wieder einmal als erfolgreiche Veranstaltung voller Kreativität, Innovationen und Visionen bewies, war der 1. Dezember. Studenten zeigten Schlüsselfiguren aus Sydneys Digitalmedienbranche ihre besten Arbeiten in den Spezialge- bieten Animation, Games-Programming und -Design, Grafik- design und Interactive Media. Dr. Jens Schroeder, akademischer Koordinator am Qantm Col- lege Sydney, beschrieb das Event als die Krönung der harten Arbeit, welche die Studenten in ihr Studium gesteckt haben, und sagte, dass er von allen Besuchern ein sehr positives, er- mutigendes Feedback bekommen habe. Er sagte: „Es ist großartig diese fantastischen Ergebnisse zu sehen. Die Studenten haben die letzten zwei Jahre hart gearbei- tet, doch die positiven Rückmeldungen, die sie erhalten, waren die Mühe wirklich wert.“ „Die tolle Qualität der Studentenarbeiten war sicherlich ein Highlight der Nacht. Aber am wichtigsten war die Vielfalt der Projekte. Wir hatten sogar ein ganzes Team von Foundation Mobile als Gäste aus der Industrie. Es besteht komplett aus Qantm-Absolventen, was diesen gemeinsamen Moment für sie und für uns zu einer noch großartigeren Erfahrung machte.“ n Das SAE Institute Stuttgart scheut sich nicht vor großen Projekten. Der „BIG AIR“ Snowboard Contest stand vor der Tür und die SAE Stuttgart hatte den Auftrag, einen Teaser anzufertigen, der die Snowboard Begeisterten dort auf unser Institute aufmerksam machen soll. Für das SAE Team Stuttgart war schnell klar, dass hier kei- ne halben Sachen gefragt sind, sondern ausdrucksstarke Auf- nahmen von talentierten Snowboardern vor der Kulisse eines Snowparks her müssen! Selber machen hieß also die Devise – nur wie? Eine Aktion dieser Größenordnung war eine willkommene He- rausforderung für das Filmdepartment der SAE Stuttgart, vor allem da die neuen Kurse kurz vorher gestartet hatten und un- ser Institute vor motivierten und wissbegierigen Filmstudenten nur so wimmelte. Es wurden also Pläne geschmiedet, Konzepte erstellt, Shotlists angelegt und Storyboards gezeichnet – nichts sollte dem Zufall überlassen werden, alles so akribisch wie nur möglich im Vorfeld geplant werden, damit der Dreh vor Ort dann ein voller Erfolg werden würde. Die Location im Stubaier Gletscher war schnell gefunden, unzählige Telefonate wegen freiwilligen Snowboard - Free- stylern, Drehgenehmigungen, Unterkünften für das Team und Equipmentbuchungen wurden geführt und nach wochen- langem planen und bangen war es dann soweit – die Abreise des Filmteams mit 7 Studenten verschiedener Filmkurse in Rich- tung Stubaital! Im Gepäck hat- ten wir ausser dem SAE eigenen Pixy-Kamerakran, EX 1/3, DS- LR Kameras und Proviant für die Studenten, noch eine RED One Mysterium X mit sämtlichem Zubehör um die verschiedenen Tricks der Freestyleboarder mit 120 Fps auf 2K aufnehmen zu können. Der Dreh im Stubai Zoo Snowpark hat 2 Tage bei optimalen Wetterbedingungen stattgefunden und war das absolute High- light im letzten Jahr. Die Studenten waren begeisterte Helfer am Gletscher-Set und bekamen im Gegenzug Live-Unterricht an einem der aussergewöhnlichsten Filmsets überhaupt! Auf knapp 3000m Höhe wurden unzählige Gigabytes an Fotos ge- schossen, Making-of´s gedreht und Setabläufe erklärt. Nicht nur die Studenten haben bei diesem Dreh Erfahrungen gesam- melt – der Zusammenhalt des Filmdepartments der SAE Stutt- gart hat seit diesem aufwendigen aber spannenden Ausflug völlig andere Dimensionen bekommen! Das Resultat, ein 30 Sekunden Teaser für den „Big Air“ Snow- boardcontest in Stuttgart, konnte sich sehen lassen, die Auf- nahmen werden in Stuttgart für interne Übungen und Show- reels weiterverwendet und haben viele unbeschreibliche Er- innerungen hinterlassen auf die wir noch lange zurückblicken werden! n In early December 2011 Qantm Brisbane held Metamorpho- sis – an annual exhibition showcasing the best of its 2011 graduate work and a celebration to reflect the transition of stu- dents into professional members of Australia’s digital media and entertainment industry. The event last year was another great success and full of students, proud parents (and lectur- ers), staff and industry.. Qantm College Sydney staged an inspiring showcase display- ing its freshest student talent to integral industry members. December 1 was last year’s auspicious date for the Industry Night, which again proved to be a successful event full of cre- ativity, innovation and vision. Students demonstrated the best of their works in the specialist disciplines of animation, games programming and design, graphic design and interactive media to key members of Sydney’s digital media industry. Dr Jens Schroeder, Academic Coordinator of Qantm College Sydney, described the event as a culmination of the hard work that students have put in to their studies and said he has had a very positive and encouraging response from all who attended. He said: “It’s great to see these fantastic outcomes. The stu- dents have been working hard for the last two years, seeing the positive feedback they receive really makes everything worthwhile.” “The outstanding quality of the student work was certainly a highlight of the night, and most importantly, it was the diversi- ty of the major projects. We also had a whole team from Foun- dation Mobile come as industry guests. This team comprises wholly of graduates from Qantm, so it was great for them to experience, and for us to witness, this full circle moment.” n SAE Institute Stuttgart isn’t afraid of large projects. The BIG AIR snowboard contest was just around the corner and SAE Stuttgart were tasked with creating a teaser to bring the Institute to the attention of the snowboard fans.. It was clear to the SAE Stuttgart team that they couldn’t do things by halves and the film had to consist of impressive re- cordings of talented snowboarders against the backdrop of a snow park. The team at SAE Stuttgart decided to take on this challenge themselves, but they still had to work out the best way to tackle the task. A mission of this magnitude was a welcome challenge for the SAE Stuttgart film department, especially as the new courses had just started and the Institute was teeming with motivated and inquisitive film students. So plans were made, concepts formulated, shot lists drawn up and storyboards created. Noth- ing was left to chance; everything possible was meticulously planned to ensure the shoot’s complete success. A location for the shoot was quickly found on the Stubai gla- cier. Countless telephone calls were made to arrange snow- boarders, film permits, accommodation for the team and equip- ment bookings. After a week’s worth of planning and worrying it was time for the film team plus 7 students from various film courses to set off for the Stubai Valley. Their luggage con- tained a RED One Mysterium X plus accessories in addition to the SAE owned Pixy camera crane, EX 1/3, DSLR cameras and supplies for the students in order to record various tricks of the freestyle snowboarders with 120 fps at 2k. The 2 day shoot took place in Stubai Zoo snow park under optimal weather conditions and was the real highlight of last year. The students were enthusiastic helpers on the extraordi- nary glacier set and in return received live tuition. Countless gigabytes of photos were taken, making-of shot and set proce- dures explained at nearly 3000m. Not only the students gained experience at this shoot; the SAE Stuttgart film department team spirit rose to an entirely new level on this complex yet exciting expedition. The result was an impressive 30 second teaser for the Big Air snowboard contest in Stuttgart. The recordings will be made further use of in Stuttgart for internal exercises and show reels and the shoot left behind indescribable memories that will be remembered for a long time. n Big Air or Thin Air?
