There are many thousands of plugins available for WordPress – the most important of these being antispam plugins, social media plugins for example for Face- book, Twitter, Google +, SEO plugins, mobile plugins, statis- tics plugins and backup plugins. The antispam plugin Akismet comes preinstalled. However there is a data protection problem in Germany with this plugin. Akismet sends personal data to the USA so its use is only legal if commenters agree that their personal data will be transmit- ted, for example by ticking a checkbox. If these measures are not carried out then the blog operator can receive a cease and desist letter. To avoid this problem Akismet can be deactivated and an alternative installed, such as the plugin Antispam Bee which protects against spam in comments, trackbacks and pingbacks in a way compliant with data protection laws. Um dieses Problem zu umgehen, kann Akismet deaktiviert werden und alternativ beispielsweise das Plugin Antispam Bee instal- liert werden, das datenschutzgerecht vor Spam in Kommentaren sowie Track- und Pingbacks schützt. Social Plugins sind in allen nur erdenklichen Variationen zu fin- den. Von Plugins wie beispielsweise „Gefällt mir“, „1+“, „Tei- len“ bis hin zur Einbindung der eigenen Social Network Seite auf dem Blog. Aber auch Plugins, die eine automatische Weiter- leitung oder Ankündigung des auf dem Blog veröffentlichten Inhalts auf den Social Media Kanälen verbreiten. Neben den bei WordPress angebotenen Plugins bieten die Social Networks wie beispielsweise Facebook oder Google+ eigene Codes an, mit denen die Social Plugins eingebunden werden können. Spannend ist hier zudem zu sehen, durch welche Wortkombinationen in Suchma- schinen die Leser auf den Blog verwiesen werden. Damit User den Blog auch auf Mobilgeräten gut nutzen können, gibt es Plugins wie WPtouch, die das Design des Blogs in ein für Mobilgeräte kompatibles Design wandeln. Last, but not least: Das Word- Press Backup Plugin. Zwar gibt es bei WordPress die bereits inte- grierte Funktion „Dateien expor- tieren“, aber diese Funktion er- stellt kein ausreichendes Backup, es speichert beispielsweise nicht die hochgeladenen Daten und erweiterten Einstellungen. Das WordPress Backup Plugin hinge- gen sichert regelmäßig die Inhalte, das jeweilige Design sowie Einstellungen und Plugins. Mit diesem Backup ist es ohne grö- ßere Probleme möglich, den Blog wiederherzustellen.
