QANTM WORLD News 079 Qantm Melbourne’s Search for a Song Writer n SAE Institute and Qantm College Mel- bourne collaborated in a songwriting competi- tion to source the best original composition to be used as the soundtrack for Qantm College’s ‘Best Of’ student showreel. 22 original pieces of music were submitted into the contest, and the high quality of the compositions proved a difficult task to designate a winner. In the end it came down to selecting a piece with an up- beat tempo that would best accompany the animation content of the showreel. Finally it was decided that Patrick Stephens’ track ‘Out- post’ – a catchy and uplifting industrial-inspired instrumental piece – was the unanimous front-runner, winning a $300 gift voucher from Factory Sound for his awesome effort. n Qantm Melbourne – Suche nach einem Songwriter SAE Institute und Qantm College Melbourne arbeiteten eng zusammen, um in einem Song- writing-Wettbewerb das beste Stück für den Soundtrack von Qantms „Best Of“ Studenten- Showreel zu finden. 22 originelle Musiktitel wurden zum Contest eingereicht und die hohe Qualität der Kompositionen machte die Nomi- nierung des Siegers zu einer schwierigen Auf- gabe. Am Ende wurde dann schließlich ein Track mit Uptempo Beat ausgewählt, der am besten zu den Animationen des Showreels zu passen schien. Die einstimmige Entscheidung fiel auf Patrick Stephens großartigen Song „Outpost“, ein einprägsames, vom Industrial inspiriertes Instrumentalstück, das ihm einen $ 300,– Ge- schenkgutschein von Factory Sound einbrachte. Let’s Jam n At the end of June, SAE Institute Vienna hosted the Austrian Game Jam for the first time, a special kind of collaborative game de- velopment workshop. For a whole weekend programmers, design- ers, artists, hobbyists, students and profes- sional developers created game prototypes together. During this short time, the teams formed on-site attempted to develop exciting, creative mini-games. Fun came first for the participants, but of course a lot of knowledge and Know-How were also exchanged. n Let’s Jam Ende Juni war erstmalig das Wiener SAE Ins- titute Austragungsort für die Austrian Game Jam, einem Spieleentwicklungs-Workshop der besonderen Art, um gemeinsam an Games zu basteln! Ein Wochenende lang kreierten Pro- grammierer, Designer, Artists, Hobbyentwick- ler, Studierende und professionelle Developer gemeinsam Spieleprototypen. In vor Ort gebil- deten Teams wurde versucht innerhalb dieser kurzenZeitspannendeundkreativeMinigames zu entwickeln. An oberster Stelle stand für die Teilnehmer der Spass, aber natürlich wurde auchvielWissenundKnow-Howausgetauscht. Qantm Sydney held an overnight lock-in to celebrate this year’s E3 Video Games Expo. E3 didn’t start until 2:00 am so the Student Representative Council organized some pre-entertainment for everyone attending. The event organisers were unsure how many to expect so we planned for best-case scenario. Over 60 students could be found in the wee hours of the morning signing up for our Call of Duty Competition, or wandering into Qantm’s Auditorium to enjoy a bit of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air before the E3 pre show entertain- ment began. This wasn’t the only entertainment available though; for the fanboys and girls there was a Super Smash Bros Tournament, as well as an amass of old school fighters, brawling it out on Qantm’s ever popular Arcade Table with the Street Fighter 3rd Strike Tournament. With only a handful of hours before classes started, students retired home or to the back room to catch a few precious moments of sleep before the campus came alive. n Eine ereignisreiche lange Nacht bei Qantm Sydney … Qantm Sydney zelebrierte mit einer Nacht-Session die diesjährige E3 Video Games Expo. Da die E3 erst um 2 Uhr nachts startete, hatte die Studentenvertretung dafür gesorgt, dass die Gäste bis dahin unterhalten wurden. Die Eventorganisatoren waren sich nicht sicher wie viele zu er- warten waren, also bereiteten wir uns auf den Optimalfall vor. Über 60 Studenten trugen sich spät nachts zur Call of Duty Competition ein oder begaben sich ins Qantm-Auditorium, um vor dem Vorprogramm der E3- Show noch etwas Fresh Prince of Bel-Air zu schauen. Doch das war nicht das Einzige, was an Entertainment geboten war. Für die jungen Spieler gab es Super Smash Bros Tournament. Und die vielen „Old School Figh- ter“ bekämpften sich im Street Fighter 3rd Strike Battle auf dem stets beliebten QantmArcade-Automaten. Nur wenige Stunden vor Unterrichts- beginn zogen sich die Studenten nach Hause oder ins Hinterzimmer zu- rück, um ein paar wertvolle Minuten Schlaf zu bekommen, bevor der Campus wieder zum Leben erwachte.
