076 SAE & SAE Alumni NEWS // Intercontinental News Dubai SAE students join hands with Dubai Police n SAE students collaborated with the Department of Anti-narcotics of Dubai Police to produce a television commer- cial titled ‘Don’t Do Drugs’ as part of an awareness campaign to combat drug abuse in Dubai. The commercial is also an integral part of the social media cam- paign by Dubai Police to highlight the ill-effects of drug abuse and to curb the social menace. The television campaign was conceptualized and produced by SAE staff and students, with the support of the concerned authorities at Dubai Police. The one-minute com- mercial was shot at different locations, including Dubai Media City, Dubai Police HQ and Satwa, and depicts the consequences of drug use faced by a young man at university. Predrag Toncev, SAE Dubai Campus Man- ager, said: “SAE Institute has continuously focused on partnering with communityinitiatives,andtheopportunitytocreateatelevisioncommercial for Dubai Police on drug abuse was significant for its social relevance, especially to the youth population. n SAE-Studenten Hand in Hand mit Dubais Polizei SAE-Studenten arbeiteten mit der Anti-Be- täubungsmittelabteilung der Polizei in Du- bai zusammen, um im Rahmen einer Kam- pagne zur Bekämpfung von Drogenmiss- brauch eine Fernsehwerbung mit dem Titel „Don‘t Do Drugs“ („Nimm keine Drogen“) zu produzieren. Die Werbung ist ein wesentli- cher Bestandteil der Social Media Kampa- gne der Polizei Dubai, welche die Folgen von Drogenmissbrauch aufzeigen und die gesellschaftliche Bedrohung eindämmen soll. Der einminütige Film wur- de an verschiedenen Locations wie dem Dubai Media Center, dem Haupt- quartier der Dubai Polizei sowie in Al Satwa gedreht. Er zeigt die Folgen des Drogenkonsums eines jungen Mannes an der Universität. As an established photographer both locally and regionally, Imran has shot both underwater pictures and videos from all around the Asian region. In- spired by mentor David Doubilet from National Geograph- ic, Imran’s works have been published in leading maga- zines such as Scuba Diver Australasia, Asian Geographic, and Digital SLR Photography. Imran is focused on stimulating young minds through creativity. He believes that learning requires a stimulating environment which engages all the senses. “The teach- er’s role is primarily in organizing materials and establish- ing a general classroom culture that allows students the freedom to test their own theories”, he explained. Imran is on his way to becoming one of Asia’s premier underwater pho- tographers. Interactive Panel Discussion “Discourse on Digital Journalism” a big Success with Audience n On 21 June 2011, SAE Institute co-hosted a one-hour panel discussion with e2i (Employment and Employabil- ity Institute). Titled “Discourse on Digital Journalism”, the discussion was attended by over sixty people and helped to promote SAE Institute’s new Certificate in Digital Journalism. The panel discussion was moder- ated by Dr William Gibson, Head of Journalism at SAE Institute. The panel featured a dynamic line-up of rising stars in Singapore’s online journalism scene. Alvin Lim, Assistant Man- ager for Online Marketing atomy, brought a fresh perspective to the use of public relations in online journalism, while Ion Danker, senior reporter and producer at Yahoo! News Southeast Asia, and Elena Torrijos, full-time online financial journalist and editor, spoke to the need to maintain credibil- ity when blogging or writing for alternative online news sources.
