074 SAE & SAE Alumni NEWS // Intercontinental News Whoever Said Audio Was a Man’s World? n The girls from SAE Brisbane have been gaining ‘the edge’ (preempted pun intended) on their male counterparts by getting involved with some of the city’s best live music events. Having just finished the Live Audio classes, the girls quickly signed up for load-in and load-out work for The Eagles, Bon Jovi and U2 shows (get the pun now – The Edge) in Brisbane. Diploma of Sound Produc- tion student Gabby Gregory said, “Being female, the experience was extra in- teresting. Working amongst burly men in a mad shuffle to set-up or pack down audio, lighting and backline equipment felt like the most difficult and backbreak- ing labor to those with smaller builds. But while the work entailed more muscle and involved mostly logistics rather than actual audio work, it was insightful to see what happens behind-the-scenes before and after a big show.” n Wer hat gesagt, Audio sei eine Männerwelt? Show.“ The girls in action (left to right) Amber Norris, Sivan Elman, Dayelle Fitzgerald and Gabriel Gregory Curious Creatures come to Life n SAE students and staff were creatively inspired when ap- proached with the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Curious Creatures team. The concept was to develop and de- liver the sound design for an interactive festival experience with digitally animated shadows of animals. Unveiled at the Lismore Lantern Parade, and re-enacted at this year’s Splen- dour in the Grass festival, the intrigued crowd engaged play- fully with the creatures. SAE staffer and Sound Supervisor for the project Tyler Solleder said, “The fact that the media is non- linear makes the sound design a unique proposition for an equally unique project. The unpredictable nature of the audi- ence engagement with an interactive digital medium which triggers the soundscape makes it a dynamic and challenging process to integrate the audio component“. Australia / Perth Australia / Byron Bay Australia / Brisbane SAE Institute and Qantm College Present Directing Workshop with Bruce Beresford n SAE and Qantm Perth were thrilled to present a 2-day masterclass with acclaimed Australian director Bruce Beresford, earlier this year.
