SAE Magazin 2/2011

The coordination of all PR and marketing activities in the whole of Europe, supporting the planning and implemen- tation of new products with specialist knowledge and the final integration of individual innovations into a larger whole. This is the job description of a Head of Marketing - the duties of Götz Hannemann. Even before finishing secondary school he wanted to study Business Administration but after spending three years studying at a secondary school with business emphasis he decided instead to follow a more artistic route with an architecture degree. The budding student of architecture moved to Braunschweig to the Technical University. Students then still preferred an analogue method of working with parchment, India ink and cardboard models rather than using monitors, graphics tablets, CAD and Photoshop. In the end it was his enthusiasm for computer-aided design, programming and media which led Götz to attend a Multimedia Producer course at SAE Institute in Hamburg. Götz gave us an insight into his career path, his private life and his working day for our magazine. How did your SAE career begin? From time immemorial women have often been behind things and this was also the case for me. My then girlfriend gave me an article about SAE Institute from a women’s magazine and said: “Read this – it sounds cool”. And it was. Two days later I made my way to Hamburg and met with the then Head of Hamburg. I could hardly believe it, it was packed to the rafters with tech- nology and the people were all very friendly and easy-going. And there was a smoking room – what more could you want?! After you studied the Multimedia Producer course was there a particular reason or something that attracted you to work for SAE Institute? I actually wanted to go into business with a fellow student and start an agency. However in some way I liked the whole flair of SAE Institute and to put it bluntly I saw potential to use my knowledge and experience to help improve the company. So I decided to start as a lecturer at SAE and also to work as a free- lance web developer. And to be honest, I’ve never regretted taking this step, not even for a second. Today you are responsible for the marketing of SAE in Eu- rope. How did this come about? To cut a long story short: I saw back then how, like today there is great potential for further internal SAE growth and was lucky enough to have managers who supported my initiative and gave me opportunities to act on it. I started in 2000 as a lecturer. In 2001 I heard that SAE Frankfurt was looking for a Head of the Multimedia department and quickly took up the challenge. In 2005 Munich offered me the chance to coordinate marketing for Germany. Another new challenge just at the right time, which I couldn’t turn down. I continued to live in Mainz, had my office at SAE Frankfurt and regularly commuted to Mu- nich. That was a lovely time in the Rhein-Main area and I have fond memories of it, not just professionally but also privately. I’ve never regretted taking this step, not even for a second”.
