How to take part

The SAE Awards are the benchmark for creative excellence, highlighting inspired thinking and recognising outstanding production skills.

SAE Students Awards:

  • The SAE Student Awards are open to all SAE students (current students or graduates from the past 12 months)
  • Submissions must be delivered to your SAE head instructor or SAE Alumni chapter president
  •  The maximum file size is 2 GB (except Game Category). Please include the completed registration form.
  • It is important that you clearly specify your role(s) in the project. Please add all necessary details in the registration form.
  • If you have additional reference material (press kit, promo material, PR clips or pictures, etc.), please include them in the delivery.
  • For any questions concerning your submission, please contact your local head instructor or chapter president.
  • Deadline: July 31st, 2018

SAE Alumni Awards:

  • The SAE Alumni Awards are open to all SAE alumni and other creative individuals.
  • Submitted projects must be no more than 2 years old.
  • Entrants must have made a significant contribution to the project.
  • Employees of SAE Institute and frequent SAE freelancers are excluded from the competition.
  • Submissions must be sent to the SAE Alumni chapter president responsible for your area.
  • If there is no local representative in your area, please contact Timo Krämer: t.kraemer@sae.edu
  • Submit your project and the completed registration form (please provide a scan or photo).
  • If your category requires you to submit media files, please use a web transfer service or deliver them to your local chapter president in person. The maximum file size is 2 GB. Please include the completed registration form.

Judging process:


  • A panel of experienced judges from SAE Institute will volunteer their time and expertise to carefully consider each submitted project. The judging panel will convene in August 2018. Winners will be contacted by email before the end of August 2018.
  • Submissions are judged on quality, not quantity.
  • The judges will consider the technical, creative and overall quality of your work with regards to your role(s) in the project.

Additional requirements and registration forms

SAE Students Awards:
All projects created as part of your SAE program can be submitted, but only one project per person and category. Please submit your project the same way you did during your studies (audio projects as WAV files, film projects as MOV files, game project as Windows installers, etc.) and include the completed registration form.

Submit your project to your head instructor or alumni chapter president (this depends on your location – please inquire at your campus). For help, please contact Timo: t.kraemer@sae.edu

  • Submit your project and the completed and signed registration form (please provide a scan or photo).
  • Send files using a web transfer service (e.g., wetransfer). The maximum file size is 2 GB. If a category requires that you submit one or multiple web links, you can send an email to your local chapter president (please include the registration form!). It is important that you provide a clear picture of your role(s) within the project. Please add all necessary details on the registration form.

SAE Alumni Awards:

Best Music Production:

  • Music production in a commercially relevant music style: 1 (one) track, 5 (five) minutes maximum running time. Please submit an edited version if original exceeds the limit.
  • Submit your project in WAV or AIFF format.
  • File names should consist of your name and the title of the track (e.g., NAME_Title.wav).

AudioBest Audio Production (non-musical performance)

  • This category is for non-musical audio projects, such as audio dramas, commercials, film sound, sound design, sound branding, sound libraries, etc.
  • Submit your project in a standard format (e.g., WAV or AIFF format for audio-only projects, quicktime for movies).
  • File names should consist of your name and the title of the track (e.g., NAME_Title.wav).
  • The maximum file size for web transfers is 2 GB.

FilmBest Film Production:

  • This category is for movies, short films, music videos, TV shows, TV commercials, etc. If the running time of your project exceeds 5 minutes, we strongly recommend that you provide the judging panel with an edited version. The judges won‘t have the time to watch a full-length movie.
  • Send a web transfer with a MOV file (standard codecs only). Do NOT send weblinks to youTube or Vimeo – we need the actual movie file.
  • File names should include your name and the title of the movie (e.g., NAME_Title.mov).
  • The maximum file size for web transfers is 2 GB.
  • This is an international event; please provide English-language subtitles if the project language is not English.

AnimationBest Animation Production:

  • This category is for animation in games, movies, TV productions, VFX, product visualisation, etc.
  • If the running time of your project exceeds 5 minutes, we strongly recommend that you provide the judging panel with an edited version. The judges won‘t have the time to watch a full-length movie.
  • Submit a web link for watching your project, or use a web transfer service to send MOV files (standard codecs only).
  • File names should include your name and the title of the movie (e.g., NAME_Title.mov).
  • The maximum file size for web transfers is 2 GB.

GamesBest Game Production:

  • Any type of playable game can be submitted!
  • Provide web links for online games or apps and installers for PC games.
  • Ensure that projects can be easily viewed / tested / installed on industry-standard systems. The judging panel has access to SAE standard equipment only.
  • Please include additional material, such as gameplay movies, manuals, and promotional material, if available.

WebBest Online Production:

  • This category is for all website development and/or website-related applications and/or mobile apps.
  • Ensure that the project can be viewed and tested online and that no installation or additional equipment is required.
  • Send a link to the project and all login data for user and admin areas, if required.
