How to take part (Alumni)

The SAE Awards are the benchmark for creative excellence, highlighting inspired thinking and recognising outstanding production skills.

  • The SAE Alumni Awards are open to all SAE alumni and other creative individuals.
  • Submitted projects must be no more than 2 years old.
  • Entrants must have made a significant contribution to the project.
  • Employees of SAE Institute and frequent SAE freelancers are excluded from the competition.
  • Your contact person for questions and submissions: The SAE Alumni chapter president responsible for your area.
  • The maximum file size (except Game category) is 2 GB.
  • Please include the completed registration form (download-link below).
  • It is important that you clearly specify your role(s) in the project.
  • If you have additional reference material (press kit, promo material, PR clips or pictures, etc.), please include them.
  • If there is no local representative in your area, please contact Timo Kraemer: t.kraemer@sae.edu
  • Please note additional requirements for your category!
  • Deadline: July 31st, 2018

Judging process:


  • A panel of experienced judges from SAE Institute will volunteer their time and expertise to carefully consider each submitted project. The judging panel will convene in August 2018. Winners will be contacted by email before the end of August 2018.
  • Submissions are judged on quality, not quantity.
  • The judges will consider the technical, creative and overall quality of your work with regards to your role(s) in the project.

 



 

Additional requirements:

 

Best Music Production:

  • Music production in a commercially relevant music style: 1 (one) track, 5 (five) minutes maximum running time. Please submit an edited version if original exceeds the limit.
  • Submit your project in WAV or AIFF format.
  • File names should consist of your name and the title of the track (e.g., NAME_Title.wav).

AudioBest Audio Production (non-music)

  • This category is for non-musical audio projects, such as audio dramas, commercials, film sound, sound design, sound branding, sound libraries, etc.
  • Submit your project in a standard format (e.g., WAV or AIFF format for audio-only projects, quicktime for movies).
  • File names should consist of your name and the title of the track (e.g., NAME_Title.wav).

FilmBest Film & TV Production:

  • This category is for movies, short films, music videos, TV shows, TV commercials, etc. If the running time of your project exceeds 5 minutes, we strongly recommend that you provide the judging panel with an edited version. The judges won‘t have the time to watch a full-length movie.
  • Send a web transfer with a MOV file (standard codecs only). Do NOT send weblinks to youTube or Vimeo – we need the actual movie file.
  • File names should include your name and the title of the movie (e.g., NAME_Title.mov).
  • This is an international event; please provide English-language subtitles if the project language is not English.

AnimationBest Animation Production:

  • This category is for animation in games, movies, TV productions, VFX, product visualisation, etc.
  • If the running time of your project exceeds 5 minutes, we strongly recommend that you provide the judging panel with an edited version. The judges won‘t have the time to watch a full-length movie.
  • Submit a web link for watching your project, or use a web transfer service to send MOV files (standard codecs only).
  • File names should include your name and the title of the movie (e.g., NAME_Title.mov).

GamesBest Game Production:

  • Any type of playable game can be submitted!
  • Provide web links for online games or apps and installers for PC games.
  • Ensure that projects can be easily viewed / tested / installed on industry-standard systems. The judging panel has access to SAE standard equipment only.
  • Please include additional material, such as gameplay movies, manuals, and promotional material, if available.
